Gallery 5 – Japanese Icons

A collection of paintings inspired by our first visit to Japan. On arrival being whisked away to the National Gallery and museum, the beauty of the many ancient artefacts was inspirational. I became fascinated by the use of gold in written scrolls, detailed screens, lacquer work and paintings.

This painting is returning to Japan as a gift to my friend Katsu from my Brother and his wife as a thank you for their recent return visit. He was their host when they met 26 years ago. It was also wonderful for me to paint this for him as we visited his home town of Kawagoe on 2018. He looked after us so well, we sketched with him in his city, he welcomed us to his home and took us to beautiful places and we meet his friends.
